Аннотация

<title>Abstract.</title> In this study, a new mathematical model was presented to model the process of plant material cutting using a shear-finger cutting unit. This model involves a new approach to modeling the plant. The model accounts for all the cutting stages: the stalk approaching the counter-cutting edge, deformation of the stalk’s cross section and separation of the stalk into two parts. This model also takes into consideration the variability of the stalk stiffness along the stalk length. Other models do not account for the change in the stalk stiffness along its length, which, in the opinion of the authors, is an oversimplification. Simulation calculations based on the discussed model were performed, and the results demonstrate high consistency with the results obtained from the experiments carried out on a test stand. This model can be applied at the stage of shear-finger cutting block design, and it should be noted that these mechanisms are widely used in harvesters, field chaff-cutters, and mowers. The subject of this work is relevant and important because the existing structural solutions of shear-finger cutting blocks are characterized by high energy consumption because their drive systems are equipped with relatively high-powered engines.
