The interplay of transport and magnetic properties in quantum well heterostructures, which comprise wells made of diluted magnetic semiconductors, e.g., GaMnAs, is theoretically investigated. The ferromagnetism in the magnetic wells is mediated by the carriers tunneling in and out of the wells, leading to a highly nonlinear coupling of resonant tunneling and the ferromagnetic state. The ferromagnetism becomes controllable by the external applied bias leading to spin-filtering and self-sustained current and magnetization oscillations.
