The asymptotic behaviour of the continuum wavefunction associated with a system of non-overlapping spherically symmetric potentials is investigated. Owing to the multicentre character of the problem, the most physically reasonable form of the wavefunction outside the range of the potentials contains N spherical waves with centres at the N spherical potentials that form the system. It is shown that if one knows the elastic scattering phases for each of the spherical potentials forming the target, and the target geometry, then the amplitude of elastic scattering by this target can be obtained in closed form as the solution of a system of inhomogeneous algebraic equations.
