Аннотация

This chapter presents a detailed technical review and outlines the applications of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61850 in the smart grid. It introduces the definition of smart grid followed by a discussion about the basics of IEC 61850 architecture model and its functional hierarchy and IEC 61850 class model, and describes the features and roles of IEC 61850. The chapter also discusses the relevant applications and advantages of IEC 61850. The smart grid uses widely IEC 61850 as a common communication standard in the power system. IEC 61850 communication service supports several services including Generic Object-Oriented Substation Events, abstract communication service interface mapped to Manufacturing Message Specification, Sampled Values, and web services. IEC 61850 has gained a wide range of application possibilities exceeding by far present applications. This is available for the immediate future in terms of integration, automation, and control of electrical substations.
