The feedback-controlled mode-locking operation of a flash-lamp-pumped Nd: YAP(YAlO 3 ) laser using a CdSe passive element is reported for the first time. Pulse trains with a duration of 1000 ns, single pulse width of 5 ps and pulse energy of 10 µJ are generated. The performances of CdSe and GaAs negative feedback elements are compared.
