THE RELATION OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM TO OVULATION AND OTHER PHENOMENA OF THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE TRACT

Аннотация

The phenomenon by means of which the ovum leaves the ovary and passes into the body cavity or into the ovarian bursa is called ovulation. The increase in intrafollicular pressure which precedes rupture has been attributed to a number of factors, such as changes in the stroma elicited by variations in blood pressure or by contraction of smooth muscle in the stroma of the ovary, and changes from within the follicle produced by a gradual secretion of follicular liquor. Markee and Hinsey (1936b) made observations which indicated to them that accompanying the increase in intrafollicular pressure, whatever may be its cause, there is some local change in the wall of the ovary overlying the maturing follicle in such a manner that this portion of the wall is removed at the time of rupture.
