Energy demand is growing at an incredible pace due to the progress of different sectors in society. This demand for energy has been largely met so far by conventional energy sources such as coal, petrol, etc. But all of these resources are finite, and they are running out very quickly. The lack of coal for energy generation at present reflects the urgency for the development of sustainable and renewable energy technologies to address these significant challenges. This is where alternative and renewable sources of energy would be ideal. One of the best options in this regard is solar energy. At its core is the incredible prospect of harnessing the sun's relentless flow of radiant energy and converting it into actual, usable power. This bountiful and inexhaustible renewable source provides an opportunity to redefine our energy future. Thanks to photovoltaic (or concentrating solar) technologies, we can collect sunlight and convert it to either electricity or heat at impressive yields. Here in this chapter, attention is mainly given to solar energy technology. This will also concentrate on the effectiveness and drawbacks of solar. The part of AI to improve the productivity of solar cells will also be focused on in this chapter.
