Bulk viscosity and relaxation times of monatomic classical liquids
Аннотация
The bulk viscosity of liquefied noble gases has been determined on the basis of acoustic experiments, and found to differ substantially from their shear viscosity. The relaxation times with respect to both bulk and shear strains have also been determined, while their relation to the stabilization time of equilibrium distributions in both the configuration region and in the pulse region of the phase space is analyzed here. It is shown that, when fluctuation effects resulting in a slower attenuation of autocorrelators and higher values of kinetic coefficients are taken into account, the agreement between theory and experiment improves even at rather small correlation radii and their corresponding characteristic times.
