Аннотация

Basic principles of nature management in the Soviet Union are formulated. Nature management is defined as the totality of human impacts designed to insure wise use of ambient conditions and specific expendable resources. Problems of nature management need to be resolved within the context of the man-nature relationship and through the analysis of natural spatial complexes. Complex physical geography is thus called upon to plan an important role. There is a need for the delimitation of homogeneous typological regional entities, for which a set of identical nature-management measures can then be planned. The tasks of nature management are illustrated with particular reference to three sets of physical environments: the tayga forest landscapes of Siberia, the arid zone of Central Asia, and mountain areas.
