Toward a theory of spin reorientation in rhombohedral antiferromagnetics

A theoretical study is made of the conditions under which spin reorientation in the basal plane of weak rhomohedral antiferromagnets in an external magnetic field occurs as a first order phase transition as the temperature is varied. Coordinates of the tricritical point are found on the plane H, T, (where H is the external magnetic field in the basal plane of the material and T is the temperature).
