Optical spectroscopy is used to study the magnetization of antiferromagnetic ferrous carbonate in the range of subcritical magnetic fields oriented along the C3 crystalline axis. It is shown that near the critical field Hl the crystal magnetization reaches ∼ 10% of the saturation value. The effect of temperature on subcritical magnetization is studied, and this dependence is extrapolated to the temperature T = 0, i.e., the contribution of zero-point vibrations to the magnetization of FeCO3 is estimated.
