Possible plasticity mechanism in pure quantum crystals

A kink on a dislocation is shown to have a band nature. Such quasiparticles have their maximum mobility in quantum crystals. The quantum nature of a kink of this kind manifests itself, in particular, in the fact that its average velocity decreases with increasing stress at sufficiently low temperatures and high stresses (not exceeding the Peierls stresses). The parameters characterizing the plasticity of real hydrogen crystals are estimated. A new pinning mechanism is suggested in which the dislocation is stopped by a pair of nearest-neighbor-ortho-molecules.
