Аннотация

It is shown that in the low-temperature anomaly of the thermal expansion of the solid solution N2–O2, aside from the contribution of exchange-coupled pairs of oxygen molecules which is quadratic in the concentration, there is a contribution which is linear with respect to the concentration of single impurity molecules. This contribution arises due to the fact that the effective spin-axis coupling, which determines the splitting of the ground triplet state of the O2 molecule, is renormalized by the spin-libration interaction. The contributions of both mechanisms become equal at O2 concentrations c ∼ 1%.
