Аннотация

The effect of the superconducting transition on the plasticity of in situ Cu–Nb multifilamentary composites has been studied. The rate of jumplike deformation is shown to increase in the normal state; this may be explicable within the framework of the thermomechanical instability of plastic flow at low temperatures. The magnitude of the softening effect, measured on both the as cast and annealed samples, correlates with the sensitivity of the flow stress to the strain rate. This is an indication of the dynamic nature of the softening effect.
