Pressure dependence of magnetic susceptibility of metals

A brief survey of works on the effect of pressure on the magnetic susceptibility due to the sp-, d-, and f-type electron states is presented. The data on the atomic volume of the parameters characterizing the band spectrum and electron interaction are considered. The behavior of the exchange-correlation enhancement of spin paramagnetism in transition metals is shown to differ considerably from the theoretical prediction based on the local approximation of the spin density functional. A possible reason behind the pressure dependence of the paramagnetic moment of stable f-states in heavy rare-earth metals is analyzed.
