X-ray investigations of solid normal deuterium

The results of x-ray investigations of polycrystalline samples of n-D2 in the region of its existence in the solid state are presented. Lattice parameters, the molar volume, and the thermal expansion coefficient are measured, and several thermo-dynamic parameters are calculated for normal deuterium. It is shown that at temperatures above 10 K, the expansion of n-D2 crystals is highly anisotropic. The contribution of the rotational subsystem to the thermal expansion of solid n-D2 is determined.
