Spectral properties of weakly ferromagnetic dielectric crystals CoCO3 in a nearly saturated paramagnetic state
Аннотация
The absorption spectrum of the weakly ferromagnetic two-sublattice cobalt carbonate in strong magnetic fields is studied over a wide spectral region. It is shown that the CoCO3 spectrum consists of absorption bands with sharply different intensities, which correspond to spin-allowed as well as spin-forbidden transitions. The intensity of spin-allowed bands is practically insensitive to the spin-wave subsystem and, in contrast to spin-forbidden optical transitions, depends weakly on the magnetic structure. The fine structure of the optical absorption spectrum of CoCO3 is analyzed in detail in the vicinity of the pure excitation line, and a correlation between structure components and spin-wave dispersion is established.
