Objective:To investigate the incidence of interval breast cancer (IBC) in women participating in breast cancer screening in 1996-1998,and analyze.Methods:To collect the data of the time from the screening to occurring IBC,the size of IBC,the axillary lymph nodes,pathology and review the mammography.Results:25 new cancer cases occurred after previous screening,the incidence of IBC was 0.3 per 1 000 women screened.The average time the new cancer occurred was (13.8±5.9) months.1 case of the IBC was 1 cm in diameter,18 were 1.1-3.0 cm,4 were 3.1-5.0 cm,1 was more than 5.0 cm and 1 had no mass respectively.2 cases were stage Ⅰ,16 were stage Ⅱ and 7 were stage Ⅲ. 7 cases were node positive. All cases were invasive.Conclusions:The incidence of IBC in this paper is lower than that of external reported,suggesting the screening programme effective.80% of IBC was detected in women younger than 50 years old. The women who are younger than 40 years with predisposing of breast cancer also should be taken the mammography and be followed up closely.If the period between two screening is 1 year,the IBC rate should fall obviously.The diagnostic rate of breast cancer should rise by improving the quality of mammography.
