Tensile failure analysis of U_3Si_2-Al fuel plate

U3Si2-Al fuel plate is a new kind of fuel in research reactors.The mechanism tensile failure of the fuel plate is a very important element to concern in the design of fuel assemblies.In this paper,the fuel plate samplers in two different sizes have been tested under tensile experiments.Based on the result data and the pictures taken via microscope,the generic mechanism tensile failure of U3Si2-Al fuel plate has been analyzed and concluded.Besides,the effects on the tensile failure from the defects of fuel core have been discussed,as well as the mechanical properties of different parts of the fuel plate.Considering the possibility of the tensile failure of the fuel plate under real operating condition,the safety performance has been analyzed.
