History of Tashkent Branch of the Azov-Don Commercial Bank

For the first time in the world historiography, the paper examines the activity and functions of Tashkent branch of the Azov-Don Commercial Bank. The research material includes interbank correspondence, annual reports of the branch director, audit reports. Archival materials on the active and passive bank operations are investigated, Tashkent branch expenses and profits are analysed and the branch staff is examined. Contrary to the Soviet and post-Soviet researchers, the authors argue that banks did not become “monopolists” in Central Asia’s economy.
