Issues of improving sociolinguistic competence of students of philological faculties of higher education in teaching a foreign language

Abstract. The article considers the problems of improving sociolinguistic competence of students of philology faculties of universities in teaching a foreign (German) language. It is claimed that the ability of students of philology to select language means in the learned foreign language adequately to the communicative act, in accordance with the socio-communicative context should be purposefully taught through a specially designed methodology based on general didactic and particle-methodic principles. In particular, the article offers the author's system of tasks and exercises to improve sociolinguistic competence of philology students of German language; The system is aimed at building students' skills and abilities to make their speech, and consequently their speech behavior, in accordance with the socio-communicative context of the speech situation. The concept of research is based on the position that when establishing social relations between communicants one variant of speech content expression is used, and at already established relations, depending on the distance between communicants, their social roles, the degree of familiarity, etc. quite different variants are possible.
