BUDDHIST CULTURE OF TARMIDH -TERMEZ

The article highlights the history and results of archaeological research of Buddhist monuments of Tarmidh-Termez in the 20-30s and 60s-80s of the XX century, 90s of the last century - the beginning of the XXI century. Data about the Buddhist culture of Tarmidh-Termez was first published on the basis of written sources, and archaeological materials were first obtained in the 20-30s of the XX century as a result of organizing expeditions. In this regard, an important role was played by the research of the expedition of the Museum of Oriental Cultures (Moscow) under the leadership of B.P. Denike, G.V. Parfenov, employees of TAKE under the leadership of M.E. Masson. As a result of these studies, the importance of acquiring and studying archaeological materials on the history of Buddhism in Tarmidh-Termez, the emergence of research in the field of material culture is observed. In the 60s and 80s of the last century, as a result of extensive archaeological exploration by a joint expedition (the Department of the East of the State Hermitage and the Museum of Oriental Art) led by B.Ya. Stavisky, G.A. Pugachenkova and Z.A. Khakimov, as well as L.I. Albaum and V.A. Kozlovsky obtained important scientific materials on Buddhist architecture, art, ancient inscriptions and material culture In the 90s. XX century - the beginning of the XXI century Buddhist art, material culture, architecture, numismatic finds, samples of ancient Indian, Bactrian and the "unknown" inscriptions of Tarmidh-Termez, as well as the spreading of Buddhist teachings in the territory of Central Asia, were reflected in the research of local and international expeditions.
