The article is devoted to the dualism of literary creatures created by J.K. Rowling in Harry Potter. Attention is focused on the originality and ways of nominating fantastic characters. The genre originality that influenced the creation and selection of mythological and fantastic creatures is considered. The differences between literary fairy tales and fantasy are revealed according to the signs of their origin, significant moments are revealed that demonstrate the intention of the work. At the end of the article, the influence of various creatures depicted in the novel on children is considered
