The main stages and directions of the penetration of British capital into the economy of the Russian Empire in the last quarter of the 19th - early 20th centuries are considered in the presented article. The widespread attraction of foreign, including British, capital to the most important branches of industry and trade has become an important component of the overall economic development of Russia in the period under study. Therefore, a detailed consideration of this topic allows us to analyze the historical evolution of Russia's policy for the implementation of economic relations with foreign countries
