BACK TRANSLATION AS A MEANS OF DETERMINING THE DEGREE OF TRANSLATION ADEQUACY (On the example of translation transformations)

The article studies back translation as a way of determining the types of transformations and the degrees of adequacy using the example of literary translation. Being one of the types of exercises, back translation in the training of qualified specialists in the field of “Theory and Practice of Translation” can be used in the analysis of literary translation to determine the adequacy at all levels of the language. An excerpt from the novel “The Woman in White” by Wilkie Collins and its translation into Uzbek by A. Iminov were selected as a material for analysis. The article studies back translation as a way of determining the types of transformations and the degrees of adequacy using the examples of literary translation. Being one of the types of exercises back translation in the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of Theory and Practice of Translation can be used in the analysis of literary translation to determine the adequacy at all levels of the language. A passage from the novel The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins and its translation into Uzbek by A.Iminov were selected as a material for analysis. On the example of online dictionaries, an attempt is made to determine the quality of translation. The analysis shows that online, in our case, Uzbek online dictionaries basically translate the text verbatim. Shades of meanings and stylistic differences between words in dictionaries are not yet taken into account. It is said that it is necessary to study parallel texts as detailed as possible. Despite the fact that online dictionaries have some drawbacks, in general, they are suitable for checking the reverse translation of texts of various styles and genres.
