Ways to improve the results of surgical treatment of posttraumatic strictures of the urethra in children

Aim. To study the results of surgical treatment of posttraumatic urethral strictures in children.Material and methods. The results of treatment of 50 children with post-traumatic urethral stricturesaged 5 to 13 years are presented. All patients before admission to the our children’s surgical departmenthad previously been operated on in other hospitals. All patients underwent a modified Marion–Holtsovoperation with the installation of a two-meter catheter of their own modification.Results. Satisfactory results were noted in 49 (98,0%) children. Only 1 patient had a recurrence of stricture, and subsequently the urethra was restored from the skin of the scrotum.Conclusion. Effective drainage and washing of the anastomosis zone with the use of a drainage catheterprevents its infection and has a beneficial effect on the healing processes of tissues.
