Interpretation of airborne electromagnetic survey data in gold ore prospecting and geodynamic zoning of the Bukantau mountains (Southern Tien Shan)

The territory of the Southern Tien Shan starts from the Beishan plateau (China), extends linearly through Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and ends in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya River (Uzbekistan). The Hercynian nappe-fold linear orogen of the Southern Tien Shan was formed as a result of accretionary crowding of allochthonous plates, blocks and scales, consisting of fragments of oceanic crust formations, passive margins, island arcs, marginal or back-arc seas. The Southern Tien Shan is characterized by the presence of large and ultra-large world-class orogenic gold ore deposits (Muruntau and Kokpatas). All large deposits of the considered region are located within the outcrop of Paleozoic rocks. The need to conduct regional airborne geophysical research is associated with the problem of expanding the funds of promising objects in closed areas with thin cover of sediments, which are associated with the exhaustion of the limit of surface and near-surface deposits. This article presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of regional airborne geophysical survey data carried out in 2020–2022 in the Bukantau mountain range. Two-dimensional processing of airborne electromagnetic survey profiles has identified volumetric zones of different resistivity in the section, which reflects the deep structure of the structural-formational zones of the subduction nature of the territory. Based on a comprehensive interpretation of airborne geophysical survey materials, deep fault zones were identified and the boundaries of the deep occurrence of granitoid intrusions were clarified. Taking into account the physical indicator of the reference deposits, distinctive petrophysical features of the ore-bearing formations were established. The patterns of formation and placement of endogenous gold ore mineralization were analyzed with identification of prospecting indicators and mineralization control factors, the geophysical characteristics of gold ore mineralization zones were determined. Based on the geological interpretation of the airborne geophysical survey, prognostic and prospective areas for gold were identified, which are recommended for subsequent detailed geological exploration work.
