New sesquiterpenol- Carotane from Ferula ferganensis

Ferganol, carotane-type sesquiterpenol, was isolated from the roots of Ferula ferganensis Lipsky ex Korovin, a plant known for its diverse secondary metabolites and potential pharmacological properties. The structure of ferganol was established based on the analysis of 1H and 13C NMR spectra, DEPT, HSQC and HMBC experiments. It was identified as 6a-hydroxy-5a(H)-dauc-8(15)-ene, a sesquiterpenol with a unique configuration in the carotane class. This discovery not only enriches the chemical diversity of sesquiterpenoids but also highlights the potential of Ferula ferganensis as a source of novel bioactive compounds, which may have applications in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. Further studies on ferganol’s biological activities and pharmacological properties are warranted to explore its full potential.
