Аннотация

This paper discusses the semantic relationships existing between adjectives in English and Uzbek and offers a new conceptual approach to making an effective bilingual thesaurus in this regard. Synsets are groups of adjectives that have similar but connotatively and operationally different meanings, so they are indispensable for capturing lexical nuances across languages. Although some kaleidoscopic studies of synsets have been done in English lexicography, introducing Uzbek adjectives into this framework has yet to be well researched. This article fills in the research vacuum by studying specific and universal semantic characteristics of adjectives in both of these languages. The presented corpus-based study relies on UzbekCorpus.uz and Reverso Context to analyze real-world contextualized adjectives, thereby providing a context-sensitive thesaurus entry. This study is novel in its focus on cross-linguistic semantic alignment and highlights how linguistic features such as morphological richness in Uzbek interact with universal patterns in English. These results may serve useful purposes in language learning, translation, and natural language processing. Although the proposed bilingual thesaurus provided a detailed structure for classifying adjective meanings, ensuring more adequate translation, it could likely serve to provide deeper linguistic understanding. The results complement linguistic theory by illustrating patterns of semantic divergence and convergence between English and Uzbek, thereby enriching research in the field of cross-linguistic lexicon. This study represents a significant advance in the field of bilingual lexicography and computational linguistics, providing a valuable resource for scholars, teachers, and language specialists working with the English-Uzbek language pair.
