Syntactic Constructions of “Nominative Theme” in the Language Structure of M. Tsvetaeva’s Essays My Pushkin and Pushkin and Pugachev

The relevance of the study is due to the need to identify and study the expressive means of syntax involved in the subjectivization of M. Tsvetaeva’s artistic prose and the identification of the author’s evaluative intention in the text. The subject of the study is segmented constructions, in particular the construction of “nominative theme”, in the artistic and prose speech of M. Tsvetaeva. The aim of the study is to examine the structural and functional features of the expressive syntactic construction - the construction of the “nominative theme” in M. Tsvetaeva’s artistic essays My Pushkin and Pushkin and Pugachev. The choice of these essays is due to the fact of the extremely vivid reflection in them of the individual originality of the syntax of M. Tsvetaeva’s prose. The scholarly novelty of this study is determined by the fact that for the first time a comprehensive study of the structure and functions of the “nominative theme” constructions in the artistic language of M. Tsvetaeva is being carried out, while she is an author whose works are at the junction of two forms of artistic speech and belong to the phenomenon of “poet’s prose”, which was born in the literature of the Silver Age. A comprehensive analysis of the “nominative theme” constructions revealed: 1) a variety of ways of expressing their segmented nature, in particular, an unusual way of expression - prepositional-case combination; 2) four structural types: reprise, anticipation, and previously unnoted by linguists anticipation-reprise and reprise-anticipation; 3) active interaction of the “nominative theme” constructions with other expressive means, in particular, repetitions, parcelled constructions, etc. In the text of the named essays, the constructions of “nominative theme” perform, in addition to emotional, expressive and expositional functions, an aesthetic and plot-compositional function. Characteristic of bookish speech, these segmented statements carry out the division of a whole syntactic unit into minimal components and are the means that implement the special artistic speech system of M. Tsvetaeva’s essays. By creating the effect of the “presence” of the subject of speech, actualizing their moment of speech, modeling the image of their direct perception of reality and their reflections, nominative theme constructions, together with other expressive syntactic structures, subjectify the author’s narrative and build a special poetic language.
