ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AS A KEY FACTOR IN ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

This article considers the role of environmental education as a strategic factor in achieving sustainable development goals.It analyzes structural barriers that hinder the effective integration of sustainability principles into educational practice.Based on expert surveys and content analysis of teaching and methodological materials, the study identifies several challenges: insufficient qualification of teaching staff, the predominance of theoretical over practice-oriented approaches, fragmented programs, and weak interdisciplinary integration.A statistically significant correlation is established between the integration of sustainable development principles into the educational process and the level of environmental awareness among students.The article substantiates the need for a systemic transformation of the educational paradigm to incorporate sustainable development's environmental, social, and economic aspects.The proposed concept for modernizing environmental education aims to develop a set of competencies that are essential for addressing the global environmental challenges of the present day.
