Аннотация

This article provides a detailed comparative analysis of speech etiquette and its ethical-normative significance based on paremiological units in the Uzbek and English languages. Relying on linguocultural, pragmatic, and axiological approaches, the study examines speech culture, communicative behavior, responsibility in word choice, and the role of the communicative environment in shaping an individual’s moral character. In Uzbek paremiology, such concepts as speech etiquette, caution, interlocutor selection, the positive and negative impact of words, and the irreversibility of spoken speech are expressed through figurative and conceptual units. These paremiological expressions are compared with their semantic and functional analogues in English, revealing the existence of shared ethical views on verbal communication in both languages. The analysis highlights the influence of speech on an individual’s social status, moral image, and communicative success, as well as the social and cultural consequences of communicative errors. The findings demonstrate that speech etiquette is regarded as an important moral value in both linguistic cultures; however, national and cultural specificities are evident in the means of expression, metaphorical imagery, and evaluative criteria. The article substantiates that paremiological units function as an essential educational mechanism contributing to moral development, social adaptation, and the formation of communicative competence.
