This article discusses the issues of phonetics and phonology in the English language, their place in the language system, and their interrelationship. Phonetics studies the production, pronunciation, and acoustic characteristics of speech sounds, while phonology analyzes the function of these sounds within the language, particularly their role in distinguishing meaning. The sound system of English has its own specific features, where stress, intonation, and sound changes play a significant role. The article examines phonetic and phonological units, as well as their practical importance in the process of learning English. A deep understanding of these two fields enhances correct pronunciation and effective communication in English.
