Research in business and technology management has extensively discussed the role of AI and its potential benefits for businesses. However, the existing literature offers limited understanding on AI deployment and employee body and mental wellness particularly from a Global South perspective in the South Asian context, e.g. India. Drawing upon Job demands-resources (JD-R), technostress (TS), and conservation of resources (COR) theoretical lenses. The data were collected from 211 HR managers by using a survey method. The findings show AI deployment negatively affects employee health and well-being. Notably, the AI deployment increases workload leading to increased stress and burnout among employees. Our results demonstrated employee work pressure mediates the relationship between AI deployment and employee body wellness. The data revealed mindful workplace improves both mental and physical health. This research extends under-explored phenomenon such as AI technology and its negative impact on employee body and mental wellness by contributing a micro-level perspective. Our research provides practical guidelines for businesses to develop new policies and strategies for adopting digital technologies including AI. This research also suggested that companies should consider societal goals when implementing AI. The findings suggest that organisations should manage AI implementation carefully by reducing work pressure and promoting mindful workplace practices to support employees’ physical and mental wellbeing.
