Аннотация

According to John J. Macionis in Introduction to Sociology (17th Edition), health and medicine are important social institutions that are influenced not only by biological factors but also by social, economic, and cultural conditions. Health is shaped by factors such as income, education, occupation, gender, race, and access to healthcare. Sociologists view illness as both a biological and social experience, and different theoretical perspectives provide distinct explanations of health and medicine. Functionalists emphasize the role of medicine in maintaining social stability, conflict theorists focus on inequalities in access to healthcare and the influence of wealth and power, while symbolic interactionists examine doctor-patient relationships and the meanings attached to illness. Contemporary societies face numerous health challenges, including chronic diseases, mental health issues, aging populations, and global pandemics, highlighting the importance of equitable healthcare systems and the social determinants of health.
