Termiticidal Activity of Ethanolic Extract of Inula helenium against Anacanthotermes turkestanicus
Аннотация
Subterranean termites Anacanthotermes turkestanicus (Jacobson, 1905) are important structural pests in arid regions of Central Asia. The present study evaluated the termiticidal activity of the ethanolic extract of aerial parts of Inula helenium L. under laboratory conditions. Bioassays revealed a clear dose- and time-dependent effect of the extract. Corrected mortality increased from 12.2% at 0.05% to 83.0% at 5.0% after 14 days of exposure. Probit analysis indicated that the median lethal concentration (LC50) was 0.47% (95% confidence interval: 0.32-0.61). The extract exhibited moderate but consistent toxicity compared to conventional synthetic termiticides. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of sesquiterpene lactones and flavonoids, which may contribute to the observed biological activity. The results demonstrate that I. helenium extract possesses significant termiticidal potential and may serve as a promising source of plant-based compounds for integrated termite management.
