Аннотация

The magnetic susceptibility of the liquid state in iron-boron alloys, with boron content in the concentration range from Fe to Fe2B, was measured by the Faraday method at temperatures up to 2200 K. Dependent on the superheating of the melt the susceptibility of the Fe90B10 alloy during cooling shows two distinctively different behaviours. This indicates irreversible dissolution of gamma -Fe-like (FCC) clusters at a critical temperature and forming of delta -Fe-like (BCC) nuclei at the liquidus temperature. Above this critical temperature the susceptibility follows a Curie-Weiss law up to 1800 K. At higher temperatures a further Curie-Weiss law is satisfied. To interpret the concentration dependence of the Curie-Weiss parameters the authors suggest a short-range order that is in accordance with the structural data of other methods in literature.
