ThisarticleexaminestheroleofsocialclassinshapingthemoraldevelopmentofPip,theprotagonistofCharlesDickens'novelGreatExpectations(1861).Usingqualitativetextualanalysisandclosereading,thestudytraceshowPip'ssenseofidentity,values,andmoraljudgmentareconsistentlyinfluencedbyhischangingsocialposition.TheanalysisfollowsfourkeystagesofPip'sdevelopment:hisearlylifeasaworking-classchild,hisgrowingshameabouthisoriginsaftermeetingEstellaandMissHavisham,thecorruptingeffectsofwealthandhisso-called'greatexpectations,'andfinallyhismoralawakeningwhenherecognizesthetrueworthofloyaltyandhumandignity.ThefindingssuggestthatDickensusesPip'sjourneytoofferasustainedcritiqueofVictoriansociety'sobsessionwithclassandmaterialwealth.Thenovelultimatelyarguesthatgenuinemoralgrowthisnotproducedbywealthorsocialstatusbutbyself-knowledge,humility,andcompassion.ThisarticlesituatesPip'sdevelopmentwithinthebroadercontextofVictorianEngland,whererigidclassboundariesshapednearlyeveryaspectoflife
