THE ROLE OF SYNONYMS AND ANTONYMS IN THE LANGUAGE SYSTEM

This article examines the role of synonyms and antonyms in the language system and their importance in the process of communication. In linguistics, synonyms and antonyms are considered important types of lexical-semantic relations that contribute to the richness and expressiveness of language. The article analyzes how synonyms, which have similar meanings, help enrich vocabulary and provide variety in speech, while antonyms express opposite meanings and contribute to clarity and contrast in communication. The study also discusses the use of synonyms and antonyms in different functional styles of language, including literary, scientific, and everyday speech.
