Results of measuring the luminescence of crystalline films of argon, neon, and their mixtures in the vacuum ultraviolet radiation range are analyzed. The question of exciton-phonon interaction in inert crystals is discussed. Experimental data indicating that the binding of exciton states to lattice vibrations is weakened in making the transition from light inert to heavy elements are presented. Features of the exciton relaxation processes in argon and neon crystals are examined.
