Neutron investigation of magnons in the Cu<sub>2</sub>MnAl Heusler alloy

Abstract An investigation is made of inelastic magnon scattering of neutrons in a single crystal of the Heusler Cu 2 MnAl alloy. The dispersion relations for three principal symmetry directions up to the energy of about 50 meV are established. The exchange parameters may be qualitatively well explained by the RKKY or Caroli‐Blandin type models, although it is possible that the agreement is accidental and another mechanism is responsible for the n.n and n.n.n. interactions.
