Annotatsiya

The ESR spectra of two physically nonequivalent centers of divalent nickel ions in a crystal of lanthanum magnesium nitrate were studied under the condition hv > D. The values obtained for the parameter of the zero-field axial splitting were as follows: D = +0.200 cm−1 (X center); −2.22 cm−1 (Y center). The changes in the ESR spectra of the nickel ions under three-dimensional compression were investigated at 4.2 °K and pressures up to 10 kbar. The parameters characterizing the zero-field splitting of the spin levels of the two centers were found to depend significantly on the applied pressure; this dependence was qualitatively in agreement with the anisotropy of the compressibility of the binary-nitrate crystal lattice.
