Annotatsiya
A theoretical explanation is proposed for the discontinuous flow of plastic deformations in metals at low temperatures. A mathematical model of the process is developed on the basis of plasticity-theory concepts, taking account of the heat liberation in the sample and the intensity of the heat transfer with the surrounding medium. The condition for the appearance of discontinuous deformation is obtained, together with the magnitude, time, and form of the discontinuity. The results are compared with the available experimental data.
