Annotatsiya
The high-frequency electrical conductivity of bulk polycrystalline gadolinium was measured in the spectral region 0.5–3.1 eV at temperatures in the range 77–293° K. At room temperature, the gadolinium spectrum consists of two bands with energies of 1.1 and 1.6 eV. The transition to the ferromagnetic state results in the appearance of a new absorption band with an energy of about 0.66 eV. Possible causes of such behavior of the optical conductivity spectrum are discussed.
