Annotatsiya
A study has been made of the effects of a magnetic field on low-temperature creep in some normal metals (Cu, Ag, Al, Cu + 1 at.% Al) in the temperature range 1.5-7.5°K. If a magnetic field H ≪ 12 kOe is switched off, the metals soften and a jump in the strain step δεH0 occurs. The metals harden on switching on the magnetic field. These features of the low-temperature creep are discussed within the framework of dynamic retardation of dislocation by conduction electrons and also of quasistatic mechanisms involving changes in the potential barriers that retard dislocations.
