Polariton effects in the luminescence of solid xenon

A fine structure is detected in the luminescence spectrum of xenon crystals in the polariton mixing region near the edge of the Γ(3/2) excitonic states. The variation of the emission bands with temperature is determined. An analysis of the spectra makes it possible to determine the parameters of polariton theory and to construct the dispersion curves of volume and surface polaritons in xenon.
