Annotatsiya
We have found that the luminescence spectrum of solid nitrogen in the vacuum ultraviolet region undergoes a reconstruction when the parameters of the electron beam exciting the luminescence in the sample are changed. The spectrum changes from one due to the radiative decay of a single excited quasiparticle to one arising from the radiative decay of biexcitons when we go from low current densities and relatively high energies to high densities and low energies of the electrons in the beam. We investigate the emission characteristics in two limiting excitation regimes, and discuss the possible mechanism underlying the spectral reconstruction in solid α nitrogen.
