Internal friction anomaly in antimony due to transition of dislocations to the underdamped state
Annotatsiya
We have detected and examined anomalous behavior of the dislocation amplitude-dependent internal friction in antimony single crystals at temperatures below 30 °K. In contrast to higher temperatures, where, in conformity with the concept of thermally activated hysteresis, the curves of the amplitude dependence shift toward higher deformation amplitudes, at T ≲ 30 °K these curves shift in the opposite direction and their curvature increases. We have established and examined the effect of sample purity and plastic predeformation on the anomaly. Analysis of the experimental results reveals that the internal anomaly friction is the result of inertial effects due to the transition of dislocation segments to the underdamped state.
