X-ray analysis of the thermal expansion of solid CO2
Annotatsiya
X-ray diffraction studies of the lattice parameters of solid carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide were performed in the temperature range 5−195 and 100−182 °K, respectively. Their densities, molar volumes, and coefficients of thermal expansion are determined; the heat capacities at constant volume, the Grüneisen coefficients, and the adiabatic and isothermal compressibilities are computed. The contributions of translational and librational vibrations of molecules to the thermal expansion of the crystals are separated. It is established that within the scope of the classical law of corresponding states, the coefficients of thermal expansion of CO2 and N2O are described practically by a single curve, while their phonon components at high temperatures agree well with data from studies of solid argon and krypton.
