Annotatsiya

The attractive potential between atoms in inert gas crystals, obtained previously in Ref. 1 in general form, is discussed. Special attention is given to the difference between this potential and the van der Waals potential, owing to overlap of atomic shells in the crystal. A model three-parameter interatomic potential, whose form follows from a microscopic analysis, is proposed. With the help of this model potential, the binding energy, zero isotherms, and elastic constants are calculated as functions of pressure for the entire series of inert gas crystals. The calculations agree well with experiment.
